Bishop Hayashi Hosts Third Gun Safety Coalition Dinner

Bishop Scott B. Hayashi hosted the first Utah Gun Safety Coalition Dinner of 2017 at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah on Tuesday, January 17th. Although it was the first one in the New Year, it was the third meeting for this group. Gun violence is one cornerstone of the Bishop’s ministry of social justice.

The attendance at each meeting continues to rise. There were representatives present from the legislature, law enforcement and advocacy groups, including the The Gun Violence Prevention Center and Moms Demand Action. House Minority Leader Brian King, Representative Angela Romero and Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill shared their perspective and concern regarding multiple gun-related bills that will come before the legislature this session.

The discussion stressed that Utah citizens be vocal with their local and state representatives on upcoming legislation that could have a profound effect on the work of Gun Violence Prevention.

For more information on the specific bills that were discussed in this meeting, please click here. Also, Bishop Hayashi asks Episcopalians to join him at Episcopal Day at the legislature on February 21st to discuss these and other social justice legislative matters.

We at the ECCU express our appreciation for all who attended. We look forward to the next session.
